Riverside - Access by Car

Directions by Car (around 2 hours from Tokyo)

1.	Drive along the Kanetsu expressway from Tokyo (beware of the speed cameras at kilometer markers 58.5 and 89.5).
2.	Get off at Exit 14 Tsukiyono 月夜野.
3.	After paying the toll, reset your trip metre: all the following distances are from the toll booth. Keep right at the sign for Naeba 苗場 which takes you down the looping off-ramp.

4.	Follow route 17 to the first set of traffic lights (4.1km from the toll booth) and turn right into route 291 (there is a gas station on the right).
5.	Follow this road to the T-intersection at the 2nd traffic light (6.3km) and turn right: you will be turning away from Jomokogen Shinkansen Station.

6.	Go downhill past the playground (6.8km), cross the bridge and turn left (7.1km). You are now heading towards Minakami 水上 on route 61.
7.	Proceed for 280m from the turn (7.38km). On the left of the road you will see a "The River Side" sign -- turn left at this corner.
8.	Proceed down the road until you get to a small cross road: you can see Riverside off to your left. There is plenty of parking.

Winter driving!

In winter you will probably not need snow chains to get to Riverside but you may be required to carry them by the highway authorities.

If you plan to head further up to the ski fields then you will need snow chains.
